While the name might make you think of those all-nighters you used to pull in college, the 24 Hours of Adrenalin event is something much muddier, intense and physically exhausting than most of us have ever experienced. In short, it’s a mountain bike race that challenges competitors to complete as many laps of an 18km course as possible within a 24-hour time span.
Top individual competitors will complete an astounding 16-18 laps in this time period. At the mercy of the elements, riders must face overcome physical and mental barriers in a race that is as much about this sense of personal triumph as it is about beating the guy next to you.
But despite these facts—which make the race seem like a discouragingly gruelling ordeal—the event is a whole lot of fun, both for participants and spectators alike. Now in its 20th year, the 24 Hours of Adrenalin event has grown from a small gathering of 100 riders to a sold-out, internationally acclaimed race drawing 1650 participants and over 5000 spectators every year.
Fans flock to Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park both for the race itself, and for the other activities and events that take place alongside it including contests, races for kids and even group yoga to get cyclists warmed up. There’s also camping, midnight corn roasts, and fundraising for local charities.
When weary mountain bikers are looking for a place to rest and relax after the race—or a place to get ready for it—they look to the BEST WESTERN PLUS Pocaterra Inn.
