Great Scenic Spots to Check Out in Canmore

posted by: BEST WESTERN PLUS Pocaterra Inn on: September 17, 2014 04:12:50 PM
Canmore is located just over an hour from Calgary but you might as well be in a different world.  Those who arrive from Calgary from the east along Highway Number One are quickly immersed in a landscape of spectacular peaks and mountain woodlands.  While you’re staying here in Canmore, be sure to check out a few of these great local spots to soak in all the mountain scenery you can.

The Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk

If you’re looking for a short walk to take in the crisp fall air of Canmore and get great views of the surrounding mountainous terrain then Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk is a great choice.  This short and well maintained hiking trail and wooden boardwalk near the centre of town follows Policeman Creek through marshy wetlands that give spectacular views of mountains on all sides.

Kananaskis Wildlife Drive

This scenic driving loop is a great option to get out and about and explore the scenery of the region from the comfort of your vehicle.  The three hour, 153 km. journey starts in Canmore and winds through the spectacular Kananaskis Provincial parks.  To make your journey extra special, stop off at Mount Engadine Lodge to take tea and witness the moose wander in the nearby meadows in the evening.

Barrier Lake

Located on Highway 40 near Canmore, Barrier Lake is a great place to drive to for a picnic at one of the many day use areas.  The lake is also well known for its boating opportunities or stand up paddle.  In the summer month, kayaks, canoes and stand up paddleboards are available from Kananaskis Outfitters.
