posted by: BEST WESTERN PLUS Pocaterra Inn on: August 22, 2014 02:18:41 PM
While summer may be drawing to a close, it is still not too late to hit the trails around Canmore! One of the world’s (dare we say it) best hiking regions, Canmore and the surrounding Kananaskis Country boasts endless possibilities for outdoors enthusiasts of all ages and fitness levels. Check out some of these popular hiking trails before summer is gone!

Bow River Loop

This trail, which takes hikers along the valley floor, is located just outside of downtown and follows the Bow River. A great option for beginner hikers, the Bow River Loop offers spectacular views of Mount Rundle and the Three Sisters and winds past a historic railway bridge. Most hikers can complete this loop in about half an hour.

Chester Lake

Intermediate and advanced-level hikers will love this hike, which winds up through some slight hills before giving way to forests and meadows and, eventually, beautiful Chester Lake. Most hikers will complete this hike in about four hours.

Grotto Canyon

This hike is fun for hikers of all skill levels. Hike along a creek bed set deep amongst canyon walls. When you come to a fork in the canyon, you have two choices: heading right will take you to a waterfall and continuing straight will bring you to hoodoos and a cave. You’ll probably want to check them both out! You should be able to complete this hike in about two hours.

Lady Macdonald

This hike is for seasoned hikers only. Starting in the valley, hikers will ascend nearly 1000 meters before reaching the summit! Spectacular views of Bow Valley await those who conquer this 5-8 hour hike.
